“He Set His Face to go to Jerusalem”

“[Jesus] was under no illusions of a quick and heroic death. He predicted in Luke 18:31-33, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written of the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished. For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon. And after flogging him, they will kill him . . . .” When Jesus set his face to go to Jerusalem, he set his face to die” (p. 18).

Adapted from “He Set His Face to go to Jerusalem,” sermon by John Piper, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis, April 4, 1982. Excerpted from Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross, edited by Nancy Guthrie.

There is a Redeemer

By Melody Green, 1982

There is a Redeemer,
Jesus, God’s own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy One.

Thank you, oh my Father,
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit,
‘Til the work on Earth is done.

Jesus my Redeemer,
Name above all names,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Oh, for sinners slain.

When I stand in Glory,
I will see His face,
And there I’ll serve my King forever,
In that Holy Place.
